Stabilization is important!

What should you remember about when training at the gym? Stabilization!

Two things are very important when training: stabilization and breathing.
Let’s focus on the first one.

Why are stabilization exercises so important? They strengthen the muscles responsible for keeping the right posture. These muscles form the corset that stabilizes the torso. These are mainly stomach and back muscles. Exercising these muscles:

  • Improves body posture,
  • Alleviates and prevents back pains,
  • Strengthens and shapes the abs,
  • Improves balance and coordination,
  • Improves efficiency in sports and everyday activities.

The muscles that stabilize the backbone are referred to as the “core.” In our clubs, we have a separate zone to train them because we know how important they are.

How to train your core

You can exercise your stabilizing muscles through:

  • Exercises done in front (or side/back) support, with yours palm or forearms on the floor—these are the popular planks,
  • Sit-ups done on a gym ball or a bosu ball (they force stabilization),
  • Exercises in suspension (using TRX),
  • Pull-ups or pulldowns,
  • Barbell exercises (rowing),
  • Arm and leg raises (simultaneous or alternating) while laying on a mat.
